One of the blogs that I read on a daily basis is feministing. The other day they had an article about Joycelyn Elders entitiled:
Dr. Joycelyn Elders is so fucking cool.
I couldn't remember why I had such good feelings about this woman ... until I saw her picture and remembered her. She was Clinton's Surgeon General ... ( from wikipedia: making her the first African American, and the second woman, to hold the position (Antonia Novello was the first).)She wrote an autobiography, in part to answer some of the criticism that flashed
her way when she suggested legalizing drugs, for one. Then at the UN at some conference on AIDS "she was asked whether it would be appropriate to promote masturbation as a means of preventing young people from engaging in riskier forms of sexual activity, and she replied, "I think that it is part of human sexuality, and perhaps it should be taught."" (from wikipedia)
I now remember why I think that

Opinions should be judged by their merits, not by the sex, color, religion, or whatever of the person who states them...Dr. Joycelyn Elders is fucking cool becasue she is willing to speak out.... and she expresses what many of us feel anyway.
The CNN commentators on the previous blog may have some good questions to ask...even if they are men. It would have been nice to have a couple of women, a black, an hispanic, a jew, a christian, a buddist, a muslim, a young person, an old person, a gay and a lesbian just to cover some bases.
All the bases ... well thats extreme. I just was hoping for a panel which reflected a demographic of the voters. Who knows how the panel might have looked if it was representative. They might have asked some different questions.
do u want the demographic to represent, sex? race? religion? economic status? sexual oreintation? political views? age? profession?...where does this end? But we agree... 5 white males probably does not come close!
