Feminist Science Fiction

I just read the Feminist Science Fiction blog. (For all of the science fiction/fantasy women out there, there is another site with lots of info: feministsf.org )
I had never heard of several of the top winners of
Top Ten (Eleven) Obscure Works. I am ashamed and very surprised. Ah, but what a thrill to find new authors. The first book that caught my attention was this one, The Shadow Speaker by: Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu. She also had a second book in this list, Zahrah The Windseeker. I found a quote by her on Locus:

“I've been called a feminist writer, and that's completely correct. I'm a feminist, a womanist, pro-equality, all of that. What's interesting is, there's always a little conflict between my womanist side and my feminist side."

The number two winner was Midnight Robber by: Nalo Hopkinson.
‘‘I've been finding the divisions between the science fiction community and the 'other' (mainstream literature). We in SF entrench ourselves. Sometimes that's good. It's wonderful to be in a group of people where we share language and culture, but sometimes it limits us. There are more people out there reading science fiction than is apparent from attending cons, and it's a much more diverse community than I thought."

I knew of neither of these women. Thank you to the Feminist Science Fiction blog.
