Jennifer Figge ... carried away

Jennifer Figge

On Dec. 1st, Jennifer Figge plans to dive into the Atlantic ocean and swim her way across 2100 miles from the Cape Verde Islands off the African coast to Barbados. She will do it in a shark cage attached to a sailboat, swimming for six to eight hours a day without rest, in Atlantic waters that should be freezing cold. The journey will take about two months and, if successful, will make her the first woman on record to swim across the Atlantic. (note: Benoit Lecomte was the first man. On 16 July 1998 he set out from Cape Cod and arrived 72 days later, on 28 September, he arrived at Quiberon, France.)
